There are two paths to follow in our lineage, to suit the needs of different students.

Join us for general inquiries about magic/spirituality or for personal mentoring with an Adept. Over the past decade, the active presence and working of several powerful Magicians (both in and out of the G.D./R.C. tradition) has contributed to the overall store of energy of Horus Behdety Temple, as have the literally hundreds of rituals that have been enacted here in a large variety of traditions and lineages. The Golden Dawn tradition is only one “crystallization” or formalization of these energies which exist at the Grand Temple of Horus Behdety, but has proven to be the most fruitful and easily accessible to practitioners.
Self-Initiation and Distance Mentoring with an Adept
Initiation is a personal event that indicates to an interested person that one has truly begun the journey of one’s personal evolution. Of course, there is no actual “beginning” to a process that is beginning-less and endless, but in this case, the word beginning refers to a point of time when one first becomes conscious of a need or impulse to further pursue one’s inner growth. Usually, when one is moved to contact the Adepts of Horus Behdety, one’s personal Initiation has already taken place on some level. Regardless of whether or not one is ever able to physically visit a working Temple, one’s progress may be aided by regular communication with an Adept in the lineage of the Rosy Cross, by which one’s evolution may be monitored and guided, and one may be counselled to avoid common pitfalls. Also, maintaining such communication establishes a subtle link on other planes of reality by which some degree of the energies of our lineage may be transmitted to you, subject only to your individual ability to receive it.
Initiating a Link
If you have read our introduction and are interested in initiating an energetic-level linkage with us, you can send us an e-mail (horusbehdetysanctuary@gmail.com) describing your magical and spiritual background, telling us specifically what areas of study and/or practice you have been involved with, and also any related organizations you have belonged to in the past or currently.
Being a past or present member of any other religious or spiritual organization will not preclude anyone from association with our lineage, as the energies of the Rosy Cross transcend organizational boundaries. If any particular books or authors have influenced you strongly, feel free to tell us.
Most importantly, tell us your goals in embarking upon the Path of the Golden Dawn.
You must be at least 21 years of age. If you have previous experiences involving any psychological conditions which may affect your work with us, please include a brief description of your psychological condition in your email. It is crucial to remember that our system of personal development is essentially spiritual, not psychological, and should not be used as a substitute for psychological work.
Include a full name (not nickname or “handle”), cell phone number and mailing address.
After Initial Contact
Your initial communication will be evaluated on several levels by one of the Adepts working in association with the Temple, to judge whether we may be able to assist your growth at this time. This is not based on the matter of worthiness but simply of appropriateness and of maintaining the right match between student and teacher.
What to Expect
Under our mentoring system the impetus for communication must come from you.
You are expected to apply yourself to your own advancement, practicing regular rituals and meditation as instructed (especially the LBRP and Middle Pillar Exercise, which calls down the Light of the Golden Dawn for healing and vision).
Initiates must keep a magical journal to log their progress. During this time you may freely contact any Adept at the temple to answer questions or guide you with any challenges you are having in your Work. This personalized guidance, along with the connection to the magical energies of the Order transmission is considered to be the major benefit of membership in our Order.
We draw on readily-available published sources (e.g., the works of Mathers, Crowley, Regardie, Cicero, Zalewski, et al.) for information, which you may be referred to from time to time. We strongly recommend that you possess either Regardie’s Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic or his The Golden Dawn: A Complete Course in Practical Ceremonial Magic, or Chic Cicero’s Self-Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition. These volumes contain most of the material you will need to start “Year One.” Initiates should be familiar with all of the material on the “Hermetic” and “Rituals” categories on this site, especially material directly relating to the Order (e.g., Wescott’s History Lecture, Introduction to the Sepher Yetzirah, etc.)
An annual support commitment of $189.00 USD is considered a minimum. Some Initiates voluntarily contribute more than this in the interests of furthering the work of the Temple by opting for Life Membership status ($596.00), which encompasses all grade advancement fees and study materials we provide.
