The cauldron has long been a symbol associated with witches. From the Ancient days in Greece to the writings of Shakespeare cauldrons have been used as powerful tools to harness and create magic.
Before metal was available to make fire proof cooking pots hot stones were added to fragile earthenware. The problem was this process was laborious and limiting. Once the cauldron was invented women, who normally oversaw the cooking, could now prepare larger quantities of hot water for bathing, herbal decoctions, and medicines.
