Tarot Contemplation – The Sun

GD TAROT_Sun

But, of course, you felt The Sun come out today!  This is a sign that soon you are likely to find yourself feeling more free than you have in a while, perhaps years.  This is a great time to take a vacation (remember, yesterday’s Six of Swords counselled now is a good time to travel) and to experience different things.  The Sun is about vitality, freedom, joy and self-expression.  Things in general are very likely going well for you.  However, even though finances are likely to be in good shape, that does not mean you lose focus on what is truly important in life.  Materiality and money are not high on that list.  This is a great time to socialize and meet new people.  Get out and about and enjoy under The Sun.  This is a time when you are very likely to be able to see the truth with a capital “T” about life; which is that there is a great deal of beauty, joy and happiness to be found in this life, if you are looking hard enough and in the right places.  Spread this very important message.  This is a great time to try different spiritual approaches on for size to see if any of them work for you.

Men of action cut a large figure in the history books, but it is the ideas placed in their heads by men of thought that actually determine what they do. Thus the scribblings of mad philosophers can lead to the deaths of millions. As the modern-day heir to this tradition, Alexander Dugin bids fair to break the record. Most Americans don’t know anything about Alexander Dugin. They need to, because Dugin is the mad philosopher who is redesigning the brains of much of the Russian government and public, filling their minds with a new hate-ridden totalitarian ideology whose consequences can only be catastrophic in the extreme, not only for Russia, but for the entire human race.In recent months, as the embrace of Duginist ideas by the Putin regime has become ever more evident, a number of articles have been written calling attention to the threat. But now, with the appearance of “The American Empire Should Be Destroyed”: Alexander Dugin and the Perils of Immanentized Eschatology, by James Heiser, we finally have a book-length treatment. It is well worth reading.Heiser is a bishop of the Lutheran church, and, accordingly, he deals with both the political and the theological aspects of Dugin’s allegedly conservative but actually neopagan “Eurasianist” ideology. The subtitle of the book may put off a number of readers, but as a plain-spoken engineer who would cross the street to avoid terms like “immanentized eschatology,” I found the writing to be clear enough overall, and in some places elegant.Heiser follows Dugin’s career, moving from his expulsion from the Moscow Aviation Institute for involvement in proto-Nazi mystical circles in the early 1980s, through his continued development in association with various Thule Society–like organizations through the late Eighties, his contacts with the anti-democratic European Nouvelle Droite, his co-founding and career with the National Bolshevik Party in the 1990s, and his subsequent move into the Russian political mainstream following from his realization that he could gain far more influence as an adviser to those in power than he ever could operating as a splinter party on his own.Heiser then proceeds to dissect Dugin’s political and geopolitical ideology of Eurasianism. The core idea of this is that “liberalism” (by which Dugin means the entire Western consensus) represents an assault on the traditional hierarchical organization of the world. Repeating the ideas of Nazi theorists Karl Haushofer, Rudolf Hess, Carl Schmitt, and Arthur Moeller van den Bruck, Dugin says that this liberal threat is not new, but is the ideology of the maritime-cosmopolitan power “Atlantis,” which has conspired to subvert more conservative land-based societies since ancient times. Accordingly he has written books in which he has reconstructed the entire history of the world as a continuous battle between these two factions, from Rome vs. Carthage to Russia vs. the Anglo-Saxon “Atlantic Order” today. If it is to win its fight against the subversive oceanic bearers of such “racist” (because foreign imposed) ideas as human rights, Russia must unite around itself all the continental powers, including Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet republics, Turkey, Iran, and Korea, into grand Eurasian Union strong enough to defeat the West.In order to be so united “from Lisbon to Vladivostok,” this Eurasian Union will need a defining ideology, and for this purpose Dugin has developed a new “Fourth Political Theory” combining all the strongest points of Communism, Nazism, Ecologism, and Traditionalism, thereby allowing it to appeal to the adherents of all of these diverse anti-liberal creeds. He would adopt Communism’s opposition to free enterprise. However, he would drop the Marxist commitment to technological progress, a liberal-derived ideal, in favor of Ecologism’s demagogic appeal to stop the advance of industry and modernity. From Traditionalism, he derives a justification for stopping free thought. All the rest is straight out of Nazism, ranging from legal theories justifying unlimited state power and the elimination of individual rights, to the need for populations “rooted” in the soil, to weird gnostic ideas about the secret origin of the Aryan race in the North Pole. What Russia needs, says Dugin, is a “genuine, true, radically revolutionary and consistent, fascist fascism.” On the other hand, “Liberalism, is an absolute evil. . . . Only a global crusade against the U.S., the West, globalization, and their political-ideological expression, liberalism, is capable of becoming an adequate response. . . . The American empire should be destroyed.”Heiser then provides a chilling analysis of Dugin’s theology:It would be our contention that Dugin’s fusion of Traditionalism and Eurasianism has become a “gnostic mass movement” of the third type, “activist mysticism.” It is not an exaggeration to state that Dugin’s intended goal, his telos, is the End of the World, and that the accomplishment

Perspectives …

OVERCOMINGThere are no Adepts or Masters in this world or upon the invisible planes who have not passed through all the sorrows and uncertainties of human experience. They have reached their present position because they have mastered those uncertainties and have risen above the circumstances which chain most people to the selfish side of life. All of the Great Ones have passed sequentially and gradually from ignorance to wisdom. none was made overnight. Each was tempted and each was strong through the moments of temptation. All were persecuted. Many died for their ideals, preferring wisdom above all treasure and truth above all power. Each initiate who now sits in session with the Elder Brothers has earned his position by consecration, intelligence, and sincerity. These are the magic keys which open the gates of the Mystery Schools.

Again and again the question is asked, “How can we know an initiate if we come in contact with one?” We can only answer, “By their works shall ye know them.” After analyzing the lives and habits of those initiates whom we are able to recoginize with our limited vision, we find that they all adhered to a general series of rules. Conditions are altered by the needs of the moment, but among the ancient manifestos we find hints as to the conduct of adepts and mystics.

For many hundreds of years the true Adepts and Initiates shrouded themselves in an impenetrable veil of mystery. This procedure served many ends. First, it protected the Initiates from the endless inconveniences to which they would be subjected by the curious and the credulous. It also permitted them to live quietly and silently, to study and pray, unknown and unsuspected even by their next door neighbor. Then, again, it multiplied the power which they had over a world which could not oppose them because it could not discover them. And, lastly, it enabled these schools and their disciples to escape the persecutions of religious bigotry and intolerance that have always been felt when man sought to discover God without the benefit of clergy.

The Egyptian Sphinx is supposed to have pointed out the initiate’s code of conduct by the symbolic interpretation of the four creatures composing it. The body of the bull with its great strength was interpreted to mean the process of labor, “to do.” The legs and tail of the lion speak of courage and are interpreted as meaning “to dare.” The wings of the eagle bespeak of loftier things, so they are interpreted as “to aspire.” The human head, with its sealed lips, means “to be silent.” Of all these rules, the last is most important.

Tarot Contemplation – Six of Swords

6swords

When the Six of Swords appears, it’s a sign that it’s time to travel … physically and metaphorically.  Time for a change in where you are inwardly, which is usually change for the better, whether inward or external.  Think about where you want to be.  Generally, the Number 6 shows at least a slight reduction in stress and strain.  Things may not be perfect, but they are going to be better than they may have been in the recent past.  Take this time to get your head above water and decide where you’re going from here.  Take your beloved on a trip, or maybe to a nearby park for a picnic.  Even a short break or change of scenery will be helpful.  This doesn’t have to cost money.  This card can also signify that your financial tide is turning for the better, if you’ve been struggling, or for the worse, if you’ve been riding high for some time.  If it’s the former, you might treat yourself to something small, but don’t get carried away:  use the influx of money wisely.  If it’s the latter, batten down the hatches.  Now is not the time to gamble, in either situation.  Some spiritual answers that have eluded you for some time may come in to your awareness suddenly.  This is sometimes tied to a change in routine; travel, or experimenting with different spiritual traditions.  Pay attention to your dreams.  They often show you things you miss during your waking hours.

Tarot Contemplation – King of Cups

He’s come back ’round again!  As we told you last time, the King of Cups speaks of balanced male and feminine energy.  He represents kindness and compassion.  Nurture yourself and allow others to nurture you.  A male boss or coworker is very much “on your team”.  Don’t hesitate to ask him for support if you need it.  Things are improving at work.  Pay attention to what you are bringing into your body.  Pay attention to your surroundings.  Give with kindness and compassion.

Tarot Contemplation – The Hermit

GD TAROT_Hermit

The Hermit is an extremely spiritual card and often has to do with institutions and large organizations — everything from bank to the entire Christian Church.  This card indicates spirituality even if you are an atheist.  It’s in whatever sense the word “spirit” makes sense to you, even if for you “spirit” equates to “emotion”.  You may be trying hard to figure out what the “truth” is about someone (or some matter), don’t feel that you have to do it all on your own.  Ask for help if you need it to gain different perspectives, more information and the like.  Just like with the Strength card, you may even more so be in the frame of mind that you need some time alone — don’t be afraid to take it.  Even if it’s just a five-minute walk aound the house so that you can clear your head.  This is also very much a card about “trying very hard to do the right thing.”  Just make sure that “doing the right thing” includes doing what is right for you personally, and not just worrying about the wants and needs of others.  Ritual of any sort will be helpful to you health-wise (and this includes activities like reading a book for an hour on Saturday).  Any health problems could be drawing your attention to a problem that is not in your body so much as in your life … for example, a bad back could indicate that you are carrying too much metaphorically speaking.  Take care of yourself.  It’s very likely that at this time a person will come into your life who is like a mentor or teacher, even if they don’t teach you directly.  You will still learn from them on several levels.  Honor the need that you may be having to withdraw to a degree from ordinary life — it won’t last forever.  You will soon be feeling much more social, so don’t push yourself now to be around a lot of people unless it is absolutely necessary.  You will likely emerge from this month feeling refreshed and renewed, particularly on a spiritual level.

Tarot Contemplation – Seven of Wands

The energies of Strength are building ever stronger within you today.  When this card appears, you are likely to find that in any sort of competitive situation that you come out on top.  Things should be going very well, you ought to be feeling good and projects ought to be moving right along.  You may still have regular moments of self-doubt, unfortunately, but now is the time to feel the fear and do it anyway.  Don’t hesitate to make where you stand clear to people.  Your thinking is clear and you are likely to help someone out by spelling things out for them.  This card can indicate that a change is coming — a positive change — in your personal or business life.  This card also points toward being independent and thinking for yourself.  By facing your fears and turning them to your advantage, you grow even stronger and are ready to face the next obstacle in your path.  Indeed, there can be no courage without fear to inspire it.  That fear does not need to be your master any more.  If an opportunity calls you, cast away your doubt and go for it with courage in your hands.  If you feel that now is the time to take a step towards your dreams, throw hesitation to the winds and let nothing stand in your way.  In short, whatever your clear desires are, go for them!
