Hello dear friends,

I hope you are all doing well! After 7 years since I joyfully served as Ceremonial Magic Moderator here at our beloved Occult Corpus, I’ve finally found my way back home to OC. It feels good to be back and see these insightful posts from all of you again!

During my time away, I was studying the Eastern traditions and was initiated into Zen through Myokyo Zenji, into Advaita Vedanta through Swami Omkarananda and into Kashmir Shaivism through shaktipat diksha from Swami Swarupananda Mahamandaleshwar Maharaj. I was also continuing my studies in therapy and social work and working with survivors of the Holocaust and older adults in palliative care; social work is, for me, my focus of Rosicrucian healing work and service. Finally, after doing some extensive Jungian ‘active imagination’ work, I’ve returned to the Western Mystery tradition to study and practice Qabalah, magic, astral alchemy, tarot…

Ceremony for the Consecration of a Banishing and Invoking Dagger

Frater S.C.F.V's avatarLight in Extension: A Magical Journal

By Frater S.C.F.V.

Introduction

GoldenDawnlogoI composed this ceremony, which draws on Golden Dawn formulae, prayers, exorcisms and conjurations from the Lesser Key of Solomon, and G.D. Enochian formulae from the Supreme Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram, to consecrate a dagger for use in general banishing and invoking work from the Lesser through the Greater and Supreme forms of the Pentagram and Hexagram rituals. I also built into the ceremonial design that an added intention of the consecrations was to augment the Operator’s sensitivity and visualization ability to the Elemental and Planetary energies when mobilized through the use of this dagger.

Temple Set-Up

Altar in the center of the Temple. Black cloth. White cross and red triangle on the altar, as in the Neophyte Grade Initiation. Incense in the East, lit, Cup in the West, Salt in the North, Candle in the South, lit. Place the dagger to be consecrated…

Isis the Great Re-Enchantress

Isidora's avatarIsiopolis

I missed a post last week, because like so many of us right now, frankly, I was a bit down. Yet, in times like these, when the glamour is off…well…just about everything, this, this is when we need Her more than ever. Isis, the Great Enchantress.

If you’re like me, your social feeds are filled right now with people wanting, longing—demanding even—to celebrate the magic of sad-sweet-mysterious and beautiful October. Our hearts cry out for magic. We need the re-enchantment of our world.

Yet theheart-cry for re-enchantment is not new.Wehuman beings have long complained about the world’s disenchantment.German sociologist Max Weber famouslydecriedit in the early 1900s and before him Freidrich Schiller in the early 1800s. No doubt the discussion goes back much farther than that, too.

With the world seemingly crumbling about our ears, we have very good reasons to be depressed. This is a hard year. A very hard year. And it most certainly can affect our practice. Yet it is just such times as these that we need our practice. We need our Deities. We need one of the key tools of the devotee of Isis: hope. With that in mind, I am republishing this post on the Dark Night of the Soul…

I read a short blog post the other day that made me sad…and sympathetic. It was by a young woman whofelt she had lost the mystery of her Pagan path. The power of the rites had flown. She doubted. Her anguish was palpable in what she wrote.

Thismay have been the first time…

Handwriting as Sympathetic Magic

thiscrookedcrown's avatarThis Crooked Crown

Sympathetic magic is the umbrella term for magic spells or techniques that a person or thing can be affected through their name or an object that represents them. The most common form of this is poppet magic.

There’s two facets of this type of magic. The first is imitation, such as that of a poppet, where the object is created to imitate the target. The second is contagion or contact, where the object has been touched or comes from the target, such as hair or a shirt.

These terms originate from Sir James George Frazer of The Golden Bough fame. But sympathetic is a fairly worldwide phenomena and has been evidenced since prehistoric times. Archaeologist and anthropologists are studying modern hunter and gatherer peoples to partially inform over the actions of previous hunter /gatherer peoples. In short, there is a theory that some cave paintings are linked to sympathetic magic…

Isis & the Faerie Queene

Queen Elizabeth I of England on the cover of The Faerie Queene Queen Elizabeth I of England on the cover of The Faerie Queene

Today’s post is a repost. I really just needed to offer something not topical (my brain and soul are a bit ragged right now), but which shows how very topical our Goddess Isis has been throughout Western history.

Have a bit of respite from the news and enjoy…

Did you know that Isis can be connected with Queen Elizabeth I—she for whom the “Elizabethan Age” is named?

It’s an interesting story…

It’s a story that speaks to the influence of Isis’ story throughout the ages. It is also a story that reinforces Isis’ importance as a feminist icon.

So let us start in 1558, the year Elizabeth, daughter of Henry VIII, became queen. Elizabeth never married, thus never shared her throne; she reigned for over 40 years. She was called “Gloriana” and “Good Queen Bess” and “the Virgin Queen”.

Introducing … The Green River Alchemical Society

Retort Issue 4 And More

The fourth issue of the Green River Retort is up on the Newsletter page. This week, we take a look at crypto-currency and continue our look at the strange world of monatomic elements. This issue also features an essay and thought experiment on Brainwashing. This essay will be posted as a podcast in the next day or two as well, and I will likely podcast the crypto article, so that I can expand on the topic. Nest week, we will take a deep look into the weather phenomena occurring world-wide and their possible relation to some Agenda 21 issues. And look for more on natural law this next week, as I have not been really keeping on that subject with all that is going on in the world. Lastly, you may want to start stocking up on food, just be prepared.   […]

Philosophy | Mimesis: Aristotle vs. Plato on Poetry

Written by Visnja Bojovic, Contributing Writer, Classical Wisdom In a previous article, we discussed Aristotle’s inspiration to write the Poetics (a treatise on drama and literary theory), and the notion of catharsis that emerged as a result. As we concluded, it is highly probable that Aristotle’
