Never ridicule or cast criticism upon the form of religion professed by another, for what right have we to desecrate what is sacred in another’s eyes?
. . .
Study well that Great Arcanum, the proper equilibrium of mercy and severity, for either unbalanced is not good. Unbalanced severity is cruelty and oppression; unbalanced mercy is but weakness, and would permit evil to exist unchecked, thus making itself as it were the accomplice of evil.

Please join us as a worldwide community as we celebrate ourselves and each other under the light of a most auspicious Full Moon in Gemini … below is our meditation focus.
Namaste’ … Metta … Peace.
Full Moon Meditation
Preparation: If at all possible for this healing meditation, allow yourself to stand or sit barefoot upon the earth in a quiet place bathing yourself directly in the light of the full moon. You may even want to do this meditation with a group of likeminded friends. This is a powerful opportunity to trigger an ongoing purification process of body, mind, emotions and spirit and of Mother Earth and for letting go of all that no longer serves you.
If you cannot do this meditation physically under the light of the full moon, then just imagine with all your senses what it would feel like if you were standing bathed in the light of the full moon.
Meditation: Breathe deeply, filling your lungs with the cool, crisp evening air, and then exhaling slowly and patiently, feeling worries, stresses and tensions just melting out of that body and mind, as you relax deeper and deeper. – It seems so easy to just let go and relax in the glorious light of the full moon – feeling so safe and so wonderfully supported by her nurturing feminine energy. – Each long, slow deep breath in and out taking you comfortably into deeper and deeper states of relaxation – Everything else is becoming unimportant and is fading into the background as you connect more and more with the energy of the full moon.
Now standing completely in the light of the full moon, raise your face to look directly at the moon. – Feel her energies blessing your face.- Experience her divine feminine presence.- Feel her cool, clear energy bathing you – your body now tingling with this purifying energy going into each and every cell, right down to the level of the DNA. If your eyes are not already closed, just allow them to softly close now.
Take you awareness to the top of your head to where the energy center called your crown chakra is. – Imagine that there is a pure white lotus bud there – Rotate this beautiful white lotus bud slowly anticlockwise until the petals are open wide and flat.
– Your crown chakra is now open. –
Feel the feminine energies of the moon now flooding into your whole being via your open crown chakra.- Now take your awareness to about 15 cms or 6 inches above your crown chakra to an energy center called the soul star chakra where you can connect strongly to the higher realms of light and love. Imagine another pure white lotus bud in your soul star chakra and rotate this slowly anticlockwise to open your soul star. – Feel your energy field beginning to expand with the inflow of more and more light.
Bring your awareness to the soles of your feet and imagine energetic roots developing from them and connecting to your earth star chakra about 15 cms or 6 inches below your feet.
Imagine those energetic roots going even deeper, grounding you firmly to the earth.
– A strong connection to your earth star chakra allows you to hold more Divine Light and Love in your body and energy field and also anchor this into Mother Earth. –
You may even like to visualize a downward-pointing lotus bud in your earth star chakra that you can rotate to open, connecting that energy center to deeper and deeper levels within the earth.
You may already be beginning to see or sense one or more of the divine feminine goddesses gathering close by, watching you through the eyes of Love.- Use your inner sight to become aware of at least one of the nurturing goddesses of the Divine feminine, such as Mother Mary, Kwan Yin – the Goddess of Compassion – or the Egyptian Goddess Isis, the Universal Mother Goddess. – Allow them to gather around you, silently, serenely and filled with Grace. – You may catch a glimpse of angel wings – or feel them gently flutter past as angels descend around you. – Experience this gathering of Divine Love. – Friendly nature spirits, the bridge between the 3rd and 5th dimensions, are being drawn to you now like moths to a candle flame. – Bathed in the moonlight, you are now encircled by these higher presences of light and Love.
Continue breathing in the pure white light energy of the full moon, drinking the moonbeams of Love into your very soul.
– Getting a sense now of every cell in your body being cleansed and purified. –
With your inner sight you may even be able to see your organs, such as your liver, being energized, purified and filled with transformational white light.
– Feeling or seeing your energy field expanding, as it is filling with white light, you are beginning to comfortably lose awareness of the boundary of your physical body. –
Experience your energy field tingling and merging with those of the assembled higher Divine feminine presences, all becoming one field of energy.
– Feel this energy of Divine Love intensifying. –
Feeling and finding that you are now effortlessly breathing rhythmically in and out of your heart.
– You are now heart breathing, connecting to the heart of the moon and the heart of the Earth –
You are now breathing deeply and rhythmically through your heart.
– It’s as if you have BECOME your heart. –
All you are sensing is your heart opening and expanding in bliss. – It may even feel a little ticklish inside like a heart orgasm. –
Releasing the heartache, the grief, the sadness, the relationships gone wrong, and all emotional hurt and pain that has been blocking the heart from fully experiencing Divine Love.
Feel yourself breathing Divine Love from this energy field into your heart, filling it to overflowing and then breathing Love back out into this unified field of Oneness.
– As the energy of your heart is expanding wider and wider, old energetic blocks are melting away and are being healed with Divine Love. –
In the serene silence you sense the rhythmic pulse of your own heartbeat now harmonizing with the heartbeat of all Creation.
– Underlying your own heartbeat is the heartbeat of Gaia, our Mother Earth, who nurtures and feeds us. –
Allow yourself to tune into this much deeper and more sustained heartbeat.
– You may receive it as a very subtle sense, or it may be quite strong. –
Take this opportunity now to say a prayer of Gratitude in your mind for all the ways in which Mother Earth sustains you.
Allow this energy of Divine Love to flow directly from your expanded heart chakra on the in-breath to deep into the heart of Mother Earth on the outbreath, via your earth star chakra.
– Wherever you are in the world, you are activating a portal of Divine Light and Love from the higher realms directly into the crystalline grid of the Earth. –
Allow yourself to imagine the awesome power of thousands of people across the globe all under the light of this full moon activating energy portals of Light and Love, or Divine doorways, connecting heaven and earth.
– See or get a sense of thousands of Lightworkers across the planet now opening these portals of Divine Light and Love, using the Divine Feminine energies of the full moon and anchoring these into the heart of the Earth and the crystalline grid. –
Take a minute to imagine this now. – How do YOU experience it? –
I’m seeing the Earth like a spherical, multifaceted clear quartz crystal radiating out brilliant radiant light.
– Spend some time now either channeling this Divine feminine energy of Love and Light into the crystalline grid generally or specifically to those places you feel are most in need of healing. –
How are you experiencing the energies shifting and changing in this crystalline grid?
Mother Earth has her own chakra system, with many ley lines sending energy throughout her chakra system and throughout the crystalline grid.
– Glastonbury in England is purported to be the Earth’s Heart Chakra. Bali is known as the World Purification Center where the two most important leylines of the Earth intersect, known as the feminine Rainbow Serpent and the masculine Plumed Serpent. –
You may like to intentionally send the energy of Light and Love to Glastonbury and/or focus your intent on feeding this energy into Bali at the intersection of these two strong leylines, which are rather like the aorta of the Earth.
– You are now contributing, as the powerful, magnificent Lightworker you are, to the purification, raising of consciousness and healing of Mother Earth and all her inhabitants. –
Imagine all the following receiving healing with Divine Love and Light: toxicity, pollution, environmental degradation, loss of rainforests, loss of animal habitats, stripping of resources, greed, war, political instability, starvation and suffering everywhere.
– All receiving healing –
You are an agent of planetary change.
Realise your God-given power for the highest good of all. See or get a sense of the positive energetic changes that are taking place even now with the efforts of you and other Lightworkers around the world.
From this full moon until the new moon you will easily and effortlessly shed old outmoded beliefs, patterns, habits, people and material goods that have been holding you back from full expression as the magnificent healer and Lightworker you are.
When you are ready to come out of this meditation, you will see or get a sense of the angels and Divine feminine presences starting to recede gently into the background.
– Thank them for their nurturing love and support. –
Allow your energy centers to readjust themselves to being able to hold the greatest amount of Divine Love and Light that you can cope with vibrationally in your full waking consciousness.
======
Notes: You can repeat this meditation at any full moon, continuing to send more and more Love and Light into the Earth for healing.
Become aware of your physical body now and the cool, dark earth beneath your feet, grounding you safely and securely to Mother Earth. Still feeling yourself bathed in the moonbeams of cleansing, purifying white light, begin to wriggle your fingers and toes.
– Taking a couple of good deep breaths, feel yourself coming fully back into your physical body and having a bit of a stretch –
If you are so guided, you may place your hands in the prayer position in front of your heart and give thanks for being chosen as a Lightworker at this important time in history.
Have a glass of water, relax and allow the energies of Divine Love and Light to continue to integrate within every cell of your body, right down to the level of your DNA.

Asking the right questions in itself is a little self-reflection that can clear things up for you. If you like, write your answer in the comments below. Do it, it’s worth it.
We will come back to this question …
What is Motivation?
When you are motivated, you have a motive. In other words: a goal that drives you to take action.
Motivation is your inner driving force to close the gap between your goal and reality.
So motivation happens if you have a strong goal. But there is even more about motivation…
Your motivation is answering one single question. The most important question: Why?
If you have a strong enough reason—a big, BIG WHY—you will have all the motivation you’ll ever need. Your BIG WHY is this Driving Force.
So to answer the former question, let’s take a look at the core reason why we loose motivation:
The Core Reasons for No Motivation
What might come to your mind may be distraction. But distraction is no reason—it’s already a result. It’s the result of:
Reason 1: Lack of Clarity. If you are not clear on what you want it’s difficult to get motivated. Lack of clarity means you have no clear aim, no specific and compelling goal of where you want to go.
More precisely you are not connected emotionally to the great outcome that this goal can produce in your life. And the result is you’re not very motivated to take any kind of action.
Reason 2: Overwhelm. If you have too much “clutter” on the table you are overwhelmed and your focus gets fuzzy. This is no good environment for effective action. Instead it drowns your motivation. You need to simplify your life and learn to say no to things that are not truly important to you.
Reason 3: Fear gets in your way. If you know clearly what you’re after—your goal—and you’re not overwhelmed anymore, there might still be something getting in your way: Fear.
Fear of failure, or even fear of success. You have to feel the fear and do it anyway, and develop ways to face your fears productively.
Reason 4: Negative Results. Let’s face it: If you tried very hard but come up short anyway, it can drag you down. Everybody feeds on little successes. We need positive reinforcement to build up positive momentum.
The 3 “Quick Fixes”
If you’re looking for an instant push in motivation, here are three powerful quick tricks:
1. Re-Connect Your Big Why
This is for re-igniting drive and putting new meaning into what you do:
Ask yourself Why: Why are you really doing this?
Uncover all the powerful reasons that got you started on your task in the first place. Then what else is a ultimate reason that will drive you to action?
Write all reasons down.
Notice how this clears the fog off your mind and gives you a strong sense of meaning.
2. The Vision Blast
This is something for the “dream big” type of person:
What is the most compelling, ideal outcome of your goal?
Got it? Good. Now close your eyes.
Visualize this outcome vividly in your minds eye. Make it big. Make it huge and colourful. See yourself achieving it. Feel how great it feels on all senses.
Do you feel a rush of motivation?
Great. Take action towards this outcome now!
3. The Check-Off
This is something for the “short-term gratification” type of person:
What one task—no big deal—a little thing that takes you towards your goal can you complete today?
Got it? Awesome. Now focus on this one little thing and get it done—no matter what.
Do just this little baby step and check it off your to-do list.
If you’ve done it, feel the sense of accomplishment and the starting build up in positive momentum.
You have a first success!
Now build on top of it from here.
4 Ways to Build Up Lasting Motivation
To really make a shift and experience long-term, ongoing motivation—like a constant undercurrent—in your life, you want to do some things more seriously:
1. Clarify Your Purpose. Motivation is not only dependent on compelling goals. If we dig deeper we’ll find out that the most motivated people are the ones who connect what they do with a deeper inner meaning.
Purpose is nothing else than your own ultimate reason of existence. You are exactly as motivated as you have a strong enough reason to be. So what’s your purpose? It’s not so much something you discover but rather something you define.
2. Do a Goal-Setting Workshop. If you’ve never done a goal-setting session in your life, start right now. Taken seriously and done right, it’s a really life-changing experience that can open up a new world for you.
I’ve written about goals and goal-setting a lot in our Halau pages ….
3. Push through with Self-Discipline. Motivation and Discipline are opposites in the way that both help you to take action, but: If you are motivated you have a strong positive reason to do something. And you’re feeling it right now—in the moment. You are motivated. You’re rocking it. Life is great.
The definition of self-discipline to act whether you feel like it or not. In other words, you take action even when you’re not feeling motivated.
So if you want to close the gap and use self-discipline to get going again, I’ve written about it in my tiny guide to self-discipline as well as here and here.
4. Do One Step. Motivation often comes when we do something. Not the other way around. So use this to start building some small positive momentum.
Develop the habit of going baby-steps: One tiny little step at a time, like a little baby does when it learns to walk.
As I said we all need little successes. It gives us this positive feeling of accomplishment. So if you can develop the habit to just “Do One Step”, you’re starting to make progress. First slow, then faster.
Success is the succession of small steps into the right direction.
Small successes over time build a huge success. Start now!

A great exercise to review when learning about Polygons, which is an essential skill when creating talismans, sigils and other magical tools.
There’s a famous alchemical work called the Rosary of the Philosopher’s, or Rosarium Philosophorum, which features 20 woodcut illustrations. They are very famous, having been printed and reprinted a number of times.
An English translation of the version printed in 1550 can be found here:
http://www.levity.com/alchemy/rosary1.html
It contains a number of quotes, real and otherwise, from earlier alchemists such as Geber, (pseudo-) Arnald of Villanova, Senior etc.
One of the illustrations is of a green lion eating the sun, which could be taken as meaning it is a substance which absorbs gold, indeed the translation says as much …

“I am the true green and Golden Lion without cares,
In me all the secrets of the Philosophers are hidden.”
Now, this text is often taken as being one about spiritual alchemy. The problem with that is that that general approach (espeically with regards to claims by Jung and other esotericists) has been discredited as regarding the actual position of alchemy in Europe in the16th century and earlier.
Which leaves us with an interesting question – how can the green lion eat gold?
And one obvious assumption – that the text maps onto physical operations. I should point out straight away that a lot of medieval alchemy is simply the author re-writing previous authors, changing the emphasis of the words and concepts used and inventing or bringing to prominence different names which may or may not cover the same substance or concept. Which makes finding the way through the texts rather difficult.
In some medieval alchemical texts, gold is certainly consumed by mercury to form an amalgam on which further work is carried out. So if the green lion is a mercury compound then it can surely consume gold. If it is sulphuric acid, it cannot, but what it could do is react with other metals present and form strange compounds. And if the sun referred to is not specifically gold, but sulphur or suchlike, then you can still get some odd reactions taking place.
So, lets look at some other alchemical mentions of the Green Lion.
The Book of the Composition of Alchemy says at the end, in the exposition of kinds, that “The green lion is glass”, which is probably an error transposing Vitriol into Vitrum. I suspect that this is a later addition than the body of the text, which has probably undergone a lot of changes over the years. The core is an Arabic work, but I don’t know how far back the symbolism of the green lion goes; 9th century recipes attributed to Rhazi include the distillation of green vitriol to produce an acidic water.
By the early 14th century, in the Testamentum of pseudo-Lull, a water from green vitriol is to be joined to a metal. That and other mentions in that century prove that distillation of sulphuric acid was practised; the difficult bit is understanding what part it might have played in the alchemical recipes. There are other recipes from that century which include vitriol, saltpetre and mercury, the practise of which most likely gives some odd mercuric compounds with acids, such as the white mercury sulphide, or if salt is present as suggested by some, mercuric chloride, which is also white. I can’t think of any obvious way in which it could be tainted green, nor do the old chemistry textbooks help.
So that’s another set of experiments that I would like to do.
But by the 15th century in England, the green lion is, according to George Ripley, not actually vitriol, although fools think it is:
XVI. But of the Green Lyon of Fools, this we say, that from it with a strong fire is drawn Aquafortis, in the which, the aforesaid Philosophers’ Lyon of the Mineral Stone, ought to be Elixirated, and assumes its Name. Raymundus saith, it were better, or safer, to eat the Eyes of a Basilisk, than that Gold, which is made with the Fire against Nature.
XVII. And I say also, that the things from whence the same Aquafortis is drawn is green Vitriol and Azoth: i.e., Vitriol Natural, not Artificial, viz. the droppings of Copper, called also Roman Vitriol, Roman Gold, by many of the Philosophers, from the abundance of its noble Tincture, the which Tincture must be fermented with common Gold.
http://www.alchemywebsite.com/ripley_medulla.html
Leaving aside the question of what Ripley’s green lion might be, the problem is that distillation of vitriol produces sulphuric acid, a mineral acid not hitherto known for it’s effect upon gold. To dissolve gold need aqua regia, a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids.
Now some alchemical recipes will produce a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acid, and the Compound of Compounds, or at least the late/ post medieval version of it, has a recipe that produces sulphuric and nitric acid mixture and then you add Ammonium Chloride to give Chlorine ions in solution, which will certainly dissolve gold. But as with some other similar recipes, it doesn’t mention the green lion, which suggests that there are two paths, one calling green vitriol the green lion, the other not.
What may help clarify things is the question of the green lion is when this version of the Rosarium was written. There is a Rosarius attributed to Arnald of Villanova, and then there are other texts that are also tited “Rosarius” or similar. However the Arnaldian one is not the same as the 1550 one we are concerned with, according to this review by Michela Pereira:
http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=6666788
I note that mention of the Green lion is made in a section headed “The table of the Greater Science” and one attributed to “Morienus”, and the later section headed “Of our Mercury which is the Green lion devouring the sun”.
The problem is simply finding decent information about the Rosarius and similar texts, given how many there were and how alchemists did not hesitate to steal texts and re-write them. Thorndike’s History of Magic and experimental science, volume 3, page 55, mentions an anonymous Rosary from the 15th century and another that isn’t from the 14th. The list of alleged quotes from alchemists in this 1550 Rosarius is comprehensive, but does not seem to be newer than the early 14th century, but does include the likes of St Thomas Aquinas, who as far as I am aware didn’t really have his name attached to alchemical works until the Aurora Consurgens in the 15th century.
So if the text is really from the first half of the 16th century, that does happen to overlap when the Compound of Compounds was re-written to use acid to dissolve mercuric chloride. Having written that, it seems I’m a bit wrong – reading Principe “The secrets of Alchemy”, it seems that the 1550 version is based on the original later 14th century text, which acceptable enough given that was when the use of vitriol for acid manufacture was commonplace, and it’s use with mercury and the like.
In fact the more I think about it the more I wonder if the importance of the green lion has been overstated, based on the use of green vitriol in manufacturing mercurial compounds. You mix some white stuff, green stuff, and mercury, and get a whitish substance
Of course one can rarely be certain about reproducing alchemical practises from texts and possible recipes, which is irritating. It might be that there is no practical intention in the text at all. But then why the lion of green? After all, lions are important in medieval heraldry and bestiaries, as the king of beasts a lion would be a sensible choice to eat the king of the metals.
Maybe I don’t have the right kind of brain, but I read extracts from bestiaries such as this:
http://bestiary.ca/beasts/beast78.htm
and can’t see why the lion is so useful in alchemical symbolism.
As a conclusion, all I can say is that this requires further study.

Failing to rise above the field of experimental findings, we have ceased to understand the ancient authors which were based on rational laws of all existence. Their theories about nature and secrecy of its operations appear to us as childish vain; thus the Hermetic Philosophy is in our eyes a tissue of dreams, like alchemy seems definitively relegated to the burial of dead science. But a particular cause was mainly motivated strikes discredit the doctrines popular in the Middle Ages until the eighteenth century: we lost the key to the language used to express them. The way we talk nowadays is quite different. It was not known previously to serve us our claims rigorously precise terms: approximations would suffice, because the simple truth is fatally inexpressible. The ideal of True will be imprisoned in any form. As a result, a certain kind, every word is a lie, since only imperfectly expresses the idea that it should be translated. The intimacy of thought, its basic spirit is elusive, it is a divinity that escapes continually and agrees that at most times be reflected in the images. As Moses, to whom Jehovah was not able to show that back.
Figurative language had to be used whenever it came to take shape transcendental notions. This is not a whim. Pure thought comes to us veiled; but her veil is transparent to discern who knows.
Hermeticism is for thinkers that innate vocation grows any further. The universal laws of generation, conservation and transformation of beings can only be represented by patterns including a superficial mind can not grasp the scope. Also the teaching of sages remains unintelligible to which stops outside the meaning of words; but it is for everyone to learn by himself, drawing three words of the Gospel:
Ask the Light and you will receive;
Seek truth and you will find;
Knock on the door of the Temple and the door will be opened.

Faith and Philosophy. – Gnosis. – Hermeticism. The slaves of the letter. – The contemporary occultism.
Alexandria was once the intellectual capital of the ancient world. Famous schools are attracted sages of all nations: the East and West met in this cosmopolitan center that put in contact Phoenicia, Chaldea, Persia and India with classical Greece, Rome and Gaul . All these countries brought the religious and scientific traditions before the throne of the Ptolemies. Hellenized Jews translated their Bible, which was first made available to the Gentiles by the so-called Septuagint. The Babylonian Berosus produced a similar úuvre by recording everything he knew about his homeland. Valuable lessons were thus collected from all quarters and compared. We tried to coordinate in a philosophical synthesis which, while remaining unfortunately only the state of Nien draft nonetheless exerted a powerful influence on the development of Christianity.
It was initially recruited from sincere people, but little light. The early Christians were ardent spirits hit the vices of their time they intended to fix. In their secret meetings, they seemed to conspire against the established institutions: they feared them as wild revolutionaries, enemies of all social hierarchy. They proclaimed men equal before one God, and admit a supernatural revelation, made accessible to all by faith. Any independent search for truth became their reprehensible eyes, as well as the arts and sciences of the pagans.
To these men of action tightly disciplined, these advocates of democratic equality thrust into the field of intelligence, opposed much harmless dreamers. They called themselves gnostics and pretended initiated into the mysteries of the ancient hierophants. Cultivating knowledge accessible only to the elite minds they boasted of having the most hidden secrets of nature; also, on occasion, they showed theurgists and therapists. The Christians were in their eyes dangerously fanatical ignorant they despised rudeness; meanwhile, they indulged in subtle speculations without managing to agree on a uniform doctrine. Every follower of Gnosis aspired to become direct confidant of divinity and, therefore, did not believe in himself. Gnosticism is thus divided into a multitude of sects giving the show a complete intellectual anarchy.
Gnostic Christians and necessarily had to fight. The fight lasted but the victory was a foregone discipline and many. Become great, the Christian party triumphed definitively upon the conversion of Constantine. Now implacable toward his adversaries, he outlawed all that was connected to the old cults and especially persecuted the followers of Gnosis.
Hounded as heretics, they had to hide their doctrines under the guise thicker veils.
Thus were born the secret or occult, an ingenious symbolism hidden from prying curiosity. One of these is alchemy, art metallic transmutations, which served as a frame to a whole vast system of allegories. We designed the mystical metallurgical, modeled on those operations that nature does in living beings. Deep Life Science hidunder special symbols; she tried to solve the most perplexing puzzles and sought the foundations of the Universal Medicine.
It was to remedy all ills, both those of the mind and soul than those of the body, moreover, it was for him to heal social ills as the infirmities of isolated individuals.
All these benefits were related to the preparation of the Elixir of Life and the famous Philosopher’s Stone. The followers were seeking a way to ensure that all beings unalterable health and put man free from all miseries. To this end, they proposed to lead everything to the degree of perfection of which it is capable; it is what they called turn lead into gold. They practiced the Great Art, Art par excellence, or Art of ancient priestly and royal insiders; in their capacity as priests, they interpreted the laws of universal harmony, they applied as kings.
Such grand designs are popping too narrow skulls. All alchemists were not men of genius: greed aroused gold diggers closed at any esoteric;they took at face value, so their extravagances were soon no bounds.
While vulgar blowers indulged in this incoherent kitchen which freed later if modern chemistry, philosophers worthy of the name, friends of the intrinsic wisdom, cared for “separate the subtle from the gross with delicacy and a rare prudence “, as recommended by the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus: rejecting the dross from the dead letter they retained the quickening spirit of the teaching of teachers. Butthe public has been confused with the wise fools He bloc rejects everything that is not in its most immediate significance or has not received the stamp of the pontiffs who captured his confidence.
However, among our contemporaries, some adventurous spirits dared to enter the catacombs of lost traditions. The way was opened by Eliphas Levi (Abbe Constant A.-L.), of which Mr Stanislas de Guaita in its tests cursed Sciences and Serpent of Genesis reveals the most brilliant disciple.
This research has extreme importance of the therapeutic point of view occult. They have appreciate treaties Alchemy, which decrypts again, despite their figurative style to excess.
The light. – Sulphur, Mercury and Salt. – The Azoth of the Sages. – The Binary and conciliation.
Hermeticism first traces the origin of all things to radiation which starts simultaneously from everywhere: it is the infinite Light, AOR Ensoph the Kabbalists (Alchemical theories were summarized with remarkable clarity in 1864, for the first Dr. Ch. Vauréal in his Essay on history ferments, doctoral thesis which then caused a sensation within the Faculty of Medicine of Paris).
This creative light emanating from a center that is located nowhere, but that each be found in himself.
Considered in its omnipresent unit, center is the source of all existence, of all thought and all life.
It manifests itself in beings as the focus of their expansive energy, which seems to refer to an internal fire, which would be maintained by what the alchemists call their SULPHUR.
But Central ardor for each result to be a refraction him to ambient light, crack is eager to penetrate the body and represents the influences on them from outside. Thus the Light-Principle is manifested in relation to beings as two opposite aspects: it converges to the center under the MERCURY name, and it radiates from this radical home as sulphurous fumes.
Mercury therefore refers to what goes and what comes out at Sulphur; but input and output assume a stable container which is what remains, i.e., the SALT.
All that is relatively fixed results from a balance struck between the expansion and sulphurous mercurial compression. Salt is a bright condensation produced by the interference of two opposite radiation; it is the receptacle that seeps mercurial mind to excite the sultry heat.
In all that can be seen as a distinction exists of necessity Sulphur, Mercury and Salt; for one can not imagine anything that would have its own substance (salt), to be simultaneously subject to internal influences (Sulphur) and external (Mercury).
Considered in its universality, as spread everywhere ether that penetrates all things, Mercury takes the name of Azoth of the Sages. That’s when the divine breath (Ruach Elohim) that Genesis shows us moving on the face of the waters, which are represented by the Salt. Originally all lies in Ashdod; but by the operation of the divine Spirit the Word is incarnated in an immaculate Virgin, who gave birth to the Redeemer. This is none other than the Will harmonized particularly with the General Will; Sulphur is allied to Mercury in a perfectly purified salt. This alliance allows individuality to conquer the fullness of being, of life and thought; because individuals do exist, live and think only insofar as they manage to assimilate líêtre life and thinking of the community to which they belong. We are nothing by ourselves: everything comes from the great All. Man must therefore seek to unite closely to the permanent source of all things.
But the intimacy of a similar union depends on the degree of purity which is worn Salt. This explains the importance attached to the purifications of all time, who still hold today a prominent place in ritualism of Freemasonry.
The predominance of Sulphur exalts individual initiative and results in manly qualities energy, enthusiasm, courage, boldness, pride, taste of command. It grows to create, invent; it encourages the movement, action, and door to give rather than to receive; also the man is based there unless the woman on the receptive faith: he prefers to develop his own ideas rather than to assimilate those of others.
Mercury develops instead the feminine virtues: gentle, quiet, shy, caution, modesty, resignation, obedience. It does not make inventive, but it gives the ability to understand, to guess and feel delicately; it is more like the rest, especially that of the mind; absorbed in reverie and vagrancy imagination.
As for salt, it creates balance, weight, stability; it is the middle one conciliator rightly took as the key symbol of wisdom.
The use of the Tarot fitted in nicely with the poem’s themes of the Fisher King and the Grail myths. A.E. Waite, a Grail obsessive, had worked numerous Arthurian figures and symbols into the highly popular 1910 Waite Smith Tarot deck. Along with the grail iconography Waite added aspects of the Christian Cabala and Hebrew Kabbalah, Gnosticism, Rosicrucianism and ancient Egyptian symbology into the deck [11]. This was done as part of a ambitious synthesis of the various occult traditions, a task undertaken by the grandly self-titled Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a group in which A.E. Waite was a key member. The Waite Smith Tarot was the first deck to have the 22 cards of the major arcana and the 4 suits, each of 14 of the minor arcana cards fully illustrated, a companion guidebook The pictorial key to the Tarot was published alongside the deck with full explanations of the cards.
From the mid-nineteenth century onward the 22 cards of the major arcana had become increasingly associated with the concept of pathways and the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet within the Kabbalist ‘tree of life’ and ‘by 1890 Kabbalistic teaching was integral to Tarot design’ [12]. As a body of knowledge the Kabbalah has its origins in Hebrew oral tradition, scriptures and Jewish rabbinical writing. Its early history is unclear, but it developed further between the 7th and 18th centuries. Its formative texts include the Zohar and Sefer Yetzirah. A key point in its development was the writing of Etz Ha-Chaim, “The Tree of Life” by Chaim Vital in the 1590s, based on the teachings of Rabbi Isaac Luria. The concept of the tree of life entered a variety of Western esoteric traditions, being taken up by the Golden Dawn and their Hermetic Qabalah.
Allusions to the components and structures of the tree of life with its alphabetised pathways and the use of kabbalistic allegory has a long tradition in Jewish and European literature.
Consisting of ten interconnected sefira (plural sefirot), the tree of life is arranged vertically into three columns or pillars: the left hand pillar, the pillar of mercy, representing the principles of benevolence; the right hand pillar, the pillar of severity, power and strict justice; while the central pillar, representing harmony and the ideal balance of mercy and justice, uniting and balancing the two sides. Each of the sefirot has an associated vice and virtue and like a snakes and ladders board, the vices and virtues form gateways and trapdoors between the sefirot.
Though each sefira is as important as the rest, the tree is arranged hierarchically into the four overlapping worlds of the Kabbalah, a ladder from the physical to the metaphysical, a ladder that one may both ascend and descend, a ladder made up of the 22 pathways.
The ten sefirot of the tree of life may have had their origins as representations of the metaphysical but they can be used as templates for personality traits, states of mind, or the developmental ages of man and are in some ways similar to Jungian archetypes. These templates are subtler than cartoon stereotypes or the motions of type-cast character actors, coming from a deep tradition influencing literary culture as well folk and pop psychology.
Each of the 22 pathways is associated with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The names of the letters have literal meanings e.g. the word aleph, the name of the Hebrew character ? also has the literal meaning of ‘ox’. Each of the 22 pathways is also associated with one of the 22 Tarot cards of the Major Arcana. In the tarot tradition these have a recognized set of attributes and symbolic and mythic associations and cards will often have links and relationships to other cards in the deck. Though the cards often represent characters they should not be seen solely in those terms, rather they present situations or dilemmas within a plot, situations that the protagonists must overcome, being integral rather than part of a parallel narrative structure. The cards, like panels from a graphic novel are dealt, interpreted and stitched into a storyboard.

For one to understand what has been written by a Kabbalist, much study, preparation and development through previous experience must take place. Kabbalah allows a soul to see the puzzle of creation in a perspective that is all inclusive. Physicality and spirituality are but one as the branch portrays what the root necessitates. When we wish to develop and have enough desire to engage in spirituality, the language of Kabbalah will open to us and our ability to perceive it as a composition for development will begin to blossom.
Born on July 13, 1527, in London, England, John Dee was an “English alchemist, astrologer, and mathematician who contributed greatly to the revival of interest in mathematics in England.”
– Encyclopaedia Britannica
“Dee was an exceptional student who entered Cambridge University when he was fifteen…Dee excelled at Cambridge and was named Underreader (junior faculty member) before taking his degree. After graduating he traveled to the Continent to continue his studies, achieving overnight fame in Paris at the age of twenty-three, when he delivered a series of lectures on the recently exhumed works of the Greek mathematician Euclid.”
– Visions and Prophesies
“After lecturing and studying on the European continent between 1547 and 1550, Dee returned to England in 1551 and was granted a pension by the government. Dee became astrologer to the queen, Mary Tudor, and shortly thereafter was imprisoned for being a magician but was released in 1555.”
– Encyclopaedia Britannica
“Dee met the future Queen Elizabeth while she was being held under house arrest by Queen Mary. The two developed a freindship that lasted for the rest of their lives. As queen, Elizabeth gave Dee money…More importantly, she protected him from those who accused him of withcraft.”
– Visions and Prophesies
“Besides practicing astrology and horoscopy in the court of Elizabeth I, whose favour he enjoyed, he also gave instruction and advice to pilots and navigators who were exploring the New World. He was asked to name a propitious day for Elizabeth’s coronation, and he gave her lessons in the mystical interpretation of his writings.”
– Encyclopaedia Britannica
“Dee’s house in Mortlake, near London, was for many years a major center of science in England. Dee salvaged many ancient scientific tomes that had been scattered when Roman Catholic churches and monasteries were ransacked during the Reformation, and his own library of more than 4,000 books may have been the largest of its kind in Europe at the time.”
– Visions and Prophesies
“Before we raise our eyes to heaven, kabbalistically illuminated by the contemplation of these mysteries, we could perceive very exactly the constitution of our Monad as it is shown to us not only in the LIGHT but also in life and nature, for it discloses explicitly, by its inner movement, the most secret mysteries of this physical analysis.”
John Dee, Theorem XVIII
“…In Dee’s most Hermetic work, the Monas Hieroglyphica, (One Hieroglyph), published in Antwerp in 1564, Dee believed he had found a ‘hieroglyph’, a hitherto hidden ‘symbol’ which contained in its form the very unifying principle of reality. It is a kind of micro-chip which contains within it all the most elementary principles of the universe. It is to be contemplated upon and fixed in memory as an archetype applicable to all studies. But what is it? If one can imagine a great ocean of prima materia which we may call in this context ‘spirit’, a pure unformed, undirected, unmoving, unmoved homogenous world, then we see the beginning of the universe. If a hand were to, as it were, drop the Monas Hieroglyphica into that ocean of potentials, the materia prima would immediately start forming itself into the universe we imagine we know.”
– Tobias Churton, The Gnostics
“In 1570 the first English translation of Euclid’s work appeared, and, although it is credited to Sir Henry Billingsley, who became sheriff and later lord mayor of London, Dee probably wrote part or all of it. In addition, he wrote the preface, which encouraged the growing interest in the mathematical arts.”
– Encyclopaedia Britannica
“…Dee stayed in his library, where, bent over his books, he explored the Talmudic mysteries, the Rosicrucian theories, and a host of other obscure and occult subjects.”
– Daniel Cohen, Masters of the Occult
Dee died in 1608 was two years before the first Rosicrucian manifesto, the Fama Fraternitas, began to circulate in 1610.
